We have fun children’s counselors who work with our little guests ages 3 – 6. You can be assured your child will have fun helping with the petting zoo, crafts, nature hikes, cookouts and pony rides. While you are horseback riding we have responsibility of your child, when you return we give that responsibility back to you. At age 7 we have children’s wranglers that teach your child the basics of horseback riding, grooming a horse and they practice all week for the exciting kid’s rodeo on Saturday morning. Your child will have the opportunity to work as much or as little with his horse as he wants. When your kids are not riding they have fun at the petting zoo, crafts, campouts and cookouts, playing foosball, ping pong, pool, archery, fishing, mountain bikes or going to the swimming hole. The primary goal of the Aspen Canyon Ranch children’s program will be to teach your child the fundamentals of good horsemanship in a fun and safe atmosphere. Our program includes the following: Equine Education - We have found that children gain a certain ease around the horses once they see how much the animals rely on them for their care. Our experienced staff will lead your child through the basics of horse care and teach them about grooming, feeding, saddling, parts of the horse, colors and why it is important to shoe them. Safety Training - The safety of your child is our primary concern, and our expert staff will provide the best safety training that is possible for horse and rider. Riding Skills - Horseback riding is what this program is all about. Each step is designed to seat your child safely, comfortably, and confidently on the back of their very own horse. Buckaroo Rodeo - The grand finale of the children’s riding program is the kid’s rodeo. This gives each child a chance to show off their new horse skills to their parents while having a lot of fun! Trout Fishing - Your child is almost guaranteed of catching a fish in one of our stocked fishing ponds and our chef will gladly prepare the trophy catch for dinner! Gold Panning - Your child will have the opportunity to see what brought most early settlers west, the lure of GOLD! In addition to panning there is also the fun of jumping in and playing in the creek! Swimming Hole – Why have a pool when you can float down the river and explore the beaver ponds with one of our kid’s counselors, or enjoy the slip n’ slide! (Old fashioned boardwalks add to the fun at the swimming hole.) Wilderness Crafts - Many kids have no idea how early settlers survived in the wilderness. Our fun hands-on craft classes are designed to teach children that there really was life before Wal-Mart. Archery – Your child can learn to shoot a bow and arrow. Before the week is out they will be hitting the bull’s eye! Petting Zoo – Baby goats, chickens, rabbits are just a few of the critters that need to be fed at the ranch. Your child can help with this chore or just enjoy petting them. Tee Pee Campout – This is a popular sleepover with one of our counselors in charge. Don’t forget the s-mores and campfire! Friday night cookout – While the adults are having a nice quiet dinner in the lodge, your child will have a fun cookout and games with our kid’s counselors.
